Bone Marrow Donor Drive Tomorrow!!
Featured, Sub City, Take Action — By admin on February 19, 2010As the Take Action Tour makes its way to Southern California with shows at the Anaheim and Sunset Strip House of Blues this Saturday and Sunday respectively, the tour will be hosting a 3-hour Bone Marrow Donor Event this Saturday afternoon (2/20) at the Brea Mall from 1-4pm, staffed by Be The Match, and Driving For Donors. Take Action wristbands will be provided for participants. The simple, pain-free process requires nothing more than a cheek swab, and simple paperwork. Donors must be between the ages of 18 and 61.
Every year, thousands of people get life-threatening diseases like leukemia and lymphoma that can be treated with cellular therapies such as a marrow transplant. Seventy percent of patients do not have a matched donor in their family so they depend on the life saving action of people who sign up for the National Marrow Registry. Driving For Donors exists to draw donors, attention, and funds to this cause. The non profit organization is the brainchild of now 14-year-old Patrick Pedraja, a former CNN Heroes “Viewers Choice” winner who was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia at age 10.
WHAT: The 2010 Sub City Take Action Tour Presented By Hot Topic has played in front of 17,000 fans so far before it winds down March 2 in Dallas, TX. This year’s trek, featuring We The Kings, Mayday Parade, A Rocket to the Moon, There For Tomorrow and other acts, has helped to raise over $30,000 while registering over 600 people to the National Bone Marrow registry. The just released Take Action Volume 9 double disc tour compilation debuted among the Billboard Top 200 at #184. To date, Sub City, a registered 501c organization, has raised nearly 2 million dollars for various charitable organizations; much of that a result of Take Action, driving home the fact that we can all help bring about change and that making a difference can be as fun and easy as buying a CD or concert ticket.
